Cockroach Control & Elimination
Cockroaches spread bacteria, trigger asthma, and contaminate food — and Florida’s humidity makes them a year-round problem. EntoLogic identifies the species, eliminates the population at the source, and prevents them from returning.
Cockroach Species Common in South Florida
Different cockroach species require different treatment approaches. Identifying the species correctly is the first step to effective control.
German Cockroach
The most difficult cockroach to eliminate. German roaches live entirely indoors — in kitchens, bathrooms, and appliances. They reproduce rapidly (one female can produce thousands of offspring per year) and are resistant to many common pesticides. Requires specialized gel bait and void treatments.
American Cockroach
The large, reddish-brown “palmetto bug” most Floridians are familiar with. American roaches primarily live outdoors in sewer systems, mulch, and storm drains but enter homes through gaps, drains, and utility penetrations. Perimeter treatment is key.
Asian & Smoky Brown Cockroach
Common in South Florida’s humid subtropical climate. Asian roaches are attracted to light and can fly. Smoky browns prefer warm, moist areas like attics and mulch beds. Both enter from outdoors and are controlled with exterior barrier treatments and exclusion.
How We Eliminate Cockroaches
The treatment approach depends entirely on the species. What works on American roaches often does nothing for German roaches — and vice versa.
Species Identification
We confirm exactly which species you’re dealing with before recommending treatment. This step alone puts us ahead of most general pest companies who apply the same product regardless of species.
Gel Bait for German Roaches
German cockroaches are best treated with targeted gel bait placed in cracks, voids, and harborage areas near appliances and plumbing. Bait is carried back to the harborage, eliminating bugs that never even contacted the treatment directly.
Perimeter Barrier for Outdoor Species
American, Asian, and Smoky Brown roaches are controlled with exterior perimeter treatment around the foundation, entry points, and harborage areas like mulch beds and utility penetrations. We also treat drains where American roaches frequently enter.
Exclusion Recommendations
We identify and document gaps around pipes, drains, doors, and utility penetrations that cockroaches use to enter. Sealing these reduces re-infestation significantly and makes every subsequent treatment more effective.
Signs You Have a Cockroach Problem
Cockroaches are nocturnal — seeing one during the day often means the population is large enough that competition is forcing them out. Don’t wait.
- Seeing live cockroaches during the day, especially in the kitchen
- Small dark droppings resembling coffee grounds near appliances or cabinets
- A musty, oily odor in the kitchen or bathroom
- Egg casings (oothecae) — dark brown oval capsules — in hidden areas
- Shed skins in drawers, under appliances, or behind the refrigerator
- Smear marks along walls near moisture sources
- Damage to food packaging, book bindings, or leather items
- Increased allergy or asthma symptoms with no obvious cause
