Why Mosquito Control Matters in South Florida

Florida leads the country in mosquito species diversity. Broward and Miami-Dade counties are among the most active regions year-round.

🦟

Year-Round Activity

Unlike northern states where mosquitoes die off in winter, South Florida’s mild temperatures and humidity keep mosquitoes active 12 months a year. There’s no off-season — which means protection can’t be seasonal either.

⚠️

Disease Risk

South Florida mosquitoes are known carriers of West Nile virus, dengue fever, Zika virus, and Eastern Equine Encephalitis. Reducing mosquito populations around your home directly reduces your family’s exposure risk.

Breeding Happens Fast

Mosquitoes can breed in as little as a bottle cap of standing water. A single female lays up to 300 eggs at a time. In Florida’s rain season, populations can explode within days without targeted intervention.

Our Mosquito Treatment Approach

Effective mosquito control targets both adult mosquitoes and their breeding sites — treating only one gives temporary results at best.

Breeding Site Inspection

We walk your entire property identifying standing water sources — gutters, flower pots, tarps, low spots in the yard, birdbaths, and more. Eliminating or treating breeding sites is the foundation of lasting mosquito control.

Larvicide Treatment

For water sources that can’t be eliminated — decorative ponds, drainage areas — we apply EPA-registered larvicides that kill mosquito larvae before they hatch. Safe for fish, birds, and pets when applied correctly.

Adulticide Barrier Spray

We treat vegetation, shrubs, eaves, and shaded resting areas where adult mosquitoes spend most of their time. This knockdown treatment dramatically reduces the adult population on your property within hours.

Recurring Maintenance

Mosquito populations rebound quickly in Florida’s climate. Monthly recurring treatments maintain population suppression between visits and prevent re-infestation from neighboring areas.

Barrier Treatment

We treat the areas mosquitoes actually rest in — not just where you see them flying.

Common Mosquito Breeding Sites Around Your Home

Most breeding happens closer to the house than people realize. Eliminating these sources is the single most impactful thing you can do.

  • Clogged or slow-draining gutters holding water
  • Flower pot saucers and plant trays
  • Tarps, pool covers, or any surface collecting rainwater
  • Low areas in the yard that hold standing water after rain
  • Birdbaths, decorative fountains, and ponds without circulation
  • Children’s outdoor toys and equipment
  • Old tires or containers stored outside
  • Pet water bowls left outdoors and not refreshed daily

Mosquito Control — Questions Answered

You’ll notice a significant reduction in adult mosquitoes within a few hours of treatment. Full effect is typically seen within 24 hours. Larvicide treatments work over several days as existing eggs hatch and are eliminated.

Yes. We use EPA-registered products and recommend keeping pets and children off treated areas until dry — typically 30–45 minutes. Once dry, treated surfaces are safe for normal use. We’ll walk you through any precautions specific to your treatment.

Rain within a few hours of treatment can reduce effectiveness. We monitor forecasts when scheduling and aim to treat during dry windows. If significant rain occurs shortly after treatment we’ll schedule a re-treatment at no extra charge.

In South Florida we recommend monthly treatments during peak rain season (May–October) and bi-monthly during drier months. Properties near water, wooded areas, or with large yards may benefit from more frequent visits.

We target resting and breeding areas rather than flowering plants to minimize impact on pollinators. We avoid treating during peak pollinator activity times and use targeted application methods. Let us know if you have gardens or beehives on your property and we’ll plan around them.
